Hello! I’m Melissa Walker, LCSW-R, a psychotherapist in New York City with offices in the Union Square area of Manhattan and in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
After completing my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, I earned a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College. While there, I completed my graduate internship at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, an inpatient research hospital affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital. Prior to entering private practice, I worked in a range of settings, including a program for emotionally troubled teens, inpatient psychiatric units, and community-based mental health clinics.
I am currently pursuing post-graduate training in psychoanalysis at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center, and in modern analytic group therapy at the Center for Group Studies, both located in New York City. My background also includes training in cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness practices, family and couples’ therapy, and trauma work. My approach is informed by all of these, as well as by my own practice of yoga, mindfulness, and meditation.
