Individual Psychotherapy
Many of the people I work with have built lives that, from the outside, appear to be working. They come to therapy because something in their relationships is not: a pattern with partners, family, friends, or colleagues that keeps reasserting itself, or a distance from other people, and sometimes from themselves, that they can’t fully account for. Many are also contending with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, or the lasting effects of trauma.
These patterns and symptoms have a history, often one that begins early in life. Psychodynamic therapy is a way of coming to understand that history. We do this by talking, and by paying close attention to what happens between us as we talk. The patterns that matter most tend to appear there too, where they can be explored and understood. That understanding is a first step toward change.
I see adults and adolescents, in person in Greenwich Village and by telehealth.
